Uphold Creative is owned by artist and teacher Laura Forbes. Laura has a masters degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Denver, and is a K-12 licensed art teacher in Colorado. Before becoming a stay-at-home mama, she taught K-2 art at The Classical Academy in Colorado Springs. After hoping for a creative space to call her own, Laura stumbled upon the art studios at Cottonwood Center for the Arts in downtown Colorado Springs, and was immediately drawn to the community & opportunities a space like this could present. Uphold Creative was created with the goal to provide a space for artistic discovery & exploration of the beauty that exists in creation & our world.

"The purpose of opening the mind, as of opening the mouth, is to close it again on something solid." -G.K. Chesterton

This quote is essential to the artistic & teaching philosophy behind Uphold Creative. Uphold Creative strives to help adults and children alike make connections between art and their lives, so that they leave the studio classroom with a greater understanding of themselves, and also the world around them. Art is everywhere, is in every culture, and is in every person. There is beauty and  power in art. It is used for communication, leads to self-discovery, and connects people, history, and cultures throughout time. In order for someone to fully understand art’s power, appreciation and discovery must be cultivated in their heart, and Uphold Creative exists to support this mission.
